Wajo, (1/9) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 0.09 percent month-to-month inflation in August 2025, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increasing from 109.16 in July 2025 to 109.26 in August 2025. The same situation occurred in July 2025, with inflation of 0.50 percent. Annually, inflation was 3.12 percent, and calendar-year inflation was 2.68 percent.


The expenditure group contributing the most to monthly inflation was food, beverages, and tobacco, which experienced inflation of 0.25 percent, contributing 0.11 percent to inflation. Education expenditures experienced 0.78 percent inflation in August 2025, contributing 0.01 percent to inflation. Housing, water, electricity, and household fuels experienced deflation of 0.22 percent, contributing 0.02 percent to inflation. The transportation expenditure group experienced deflation of 0.09 percent in August 2025 and contributed 0.01 percent to inflation. In August 2025, only four of the eleven expenditure groups contributed significantly to inflation, while the remaining groups were very small, approaching zero.


On an annual basis, year-on-year (y-o-y) inflation in Wajo Regency reached 3.12 percent in August 2025. Annual inflation is derived from the inflationary contribution of each expenditure group. Among those experiencing price increases, the food, beverage, and tobacco group contributed 1.92 percent; the personal care and other services group 1.00 percent; the transportation group 0.09 percent; the housing, water, electricity, and household fuels group 0.05 percent; the food and beverage/restaurant provider group 0.05 percent; the clothing and footwear group 0.02 percent; the education group 0.01 percent; and the recreation, sports, and culture group 0.01 percent. Among those experiencing price decreases, the household equipment, tools, and routine maintenance group contributed 0.03 percent to deflation; the health and information, communication, and financial services groups also experienced deflation, but with insignificant contributions.


Of the eight regencies/cities that constitute the CPI cities in South Sulawesi Province, five experienced monthly deflation, while three others experienced inflation. East Luwu Regency experienced the highest monthly inflation, while Watampone experienced the deepest deflation. Annually, all CPI cities in South Sulawesi Province experienced inflation, with the highest annual inflation rate being experienced by Parepare City at 4.46 percent, and the lowest inflation rate being experienced by Palopo City at 2.75 percent.
